Mode of action

The mode of action of DiaClin BodyWash is to cleanse with wash active agents, combined with the forming of a protective bio-active layer to support the skin’s barrier function of the skin and to balance the micro flora. The skin’s micro flora is an important component of the body’s defense system: the barrier function. A balanced and stable micro flora of the skin is of vital importance for the optimal functioning of the skin, creating an optimal barrier and thereby a healthy skin.

An optimal barrier function is crucial for healthy skin. In diabetes the skin’s barrier function is impaired resulting in dehydration and a dry, itchy, poor skin condition. This also has a negative impact on the micro flora of the skin. The diabetic skin will lose its resilience and becomes more and more vulnerable.

When using DiaClin BodyWash, optimization of the skin flora is achieved with the patented 2QR-complex (Galactoarabinan Polyglucoronic Acid Crosspolymer), the main ingredient of all DiaClin products. This patented bio-active substance effectively neutralizes harmful microorganisms by blocking their adhesion to the skin and mucosa.

Wash active agents

DiaClin BodyWash cleanses the skin with wash active agents without breaching its barrier function. Mildness of wash active agents (surfactants) is an important parameter, because it is also indicative for the fact that the integrity of the topically present microflora is maintained. With many wash active products the sebum and microflora is completely washed away, leaving the skin unprotected for several hours, also enabling an invasion of pathogen organisms. The mildness of surfactants can be tested according to ECVAM accepted procedures such as the RBC or the HET-CAM test.

In the case of the RBC test a scale has been set up as follows:

Non irritant: less than 5
Very slightly irritant: 5 – 10
Slightly irritant: 10 – 20
Irritant: 20 – 30
Severely irritant: 30 – 40
Very severely irritant: over 40

The surfactants in DiaClin BodyWash are state-of-the-art with a RBC value of less than 5.
